When my father passed away in 2017, there were naturally a lot of things he owned that were meaningful but difficult to find the appropriate place for. My mom thought I would appreciate having the hard copy of his PhD dissertation, given that I work in a somewhat related field (Electrical Engineering vs Computer Science). For the last several years, this has really just been collecting dust. I realized that, given when it was published (1985), it probably didn't exist online anywhere. After searching & failing to find it, I thought it would be worth digitizing it in a searchable format, both for its potential technical value as well as general posterity.
The approach for this was incredibly simple. I sat the book down somewhere with decent lighting, took a high-res photo of every page, and handed the task off to Claude Cowork. It took a little spot-checking to fix a few OCR issues, formatting errors, etc., but Claude (Opus 4.8) did a surprisingly excellent job on its first pass.
The digitized copy is available here.
